Ill post a time lapse video of this being drawn sometime tomorrow!
(also can you spot the the blitzkast title in the teeth...whoops made it too subtle...)

its SUNDAY, the 8th of january, 2012!

What?

Start and finish a game prototype within 4 hours! You can start any time you want within the blitz time frame, as long as you try haaaaarrrd not to go over 4 hours of total work. The four hour limit serves to keep the projects' scope in check. Going over is no big deal, it is more of a rule of thumb for what to aim for than a strict time limit. NO BIG DEAL. JUST MAKE A GODDAM GAME!!!!

Then post your doings on this thread over at TIGSOURCE:
THREAD

When?
On second sunday every month, from 0:00 to 23:59!
Official Blitzkast Time starts at 18:00 UTC. But you don't have to be there if you can't!
Again, the rules are pretty slack. You can keep working on the game after that, or even start a little before WHO THE HELL CARES JUST MAKE A GODDAM GAME FOR PETES SAKE

This month, it will be at the 8TH OF JANUARY. Sunday, as usual.
Fun fact: It is the earliest possible day of the month, and also means this month will have a Friday the 13th....... which inspired this month's theme! SEE THE CONNECTION

Where?
At your place! Meeting in #poppenkast@slashnet
(thats on IRC. thats an irc thingy. Its an online thing.)

Why?
It's the perfect excuse to take a break from your usual projects and go nuts on something new and refreshing for just a short while. You just have four hours to lose...

This is not a competition. Idea is to get people active and make those games they always wanted to but "didn't have time for it" a.k.a. too lazy!

Bonus Extra challenge!

Theme: BAD OMEN
Make a finished game in 4 hours using this theme! If you like.

ALSO HERES SOMETHING NEW (maybe)
Im planning to start a thing.
A thing where Ill make video wrap-ups of the competitions. Possibly with weird animated shit. Like, an animated character host playing through the Blitzkast games, possibly being wacky or commenting on em pseudo-humorously. It may or may not be a super awful idea, but im gonna try it out, starting by making videos for the previous Blitzkasts and hopefully catching up with today eventually. Im not promising anything but I think that could be fun and also provide with some sort of nice wrap-up of each competition, showing everything that was made in one lil package. Ill try getting one done this month!!

GET CRACKIN.

With love,
Poppenkast

Heres a trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpnefrZxKrQ

Get the game in there:
http://www.frankiesmileshow.com/station37/

Assorted Screenshots:

(the screenshots are actually a little bit old now that I think about it)

Game was made mostly at the Toronto Game Jam, by me and the Monster King, with music by Chef Boyardee.
Nice lads from the Poppenkast, Chef and our friend Lurdiak did some serious testing.

There was quite a bit of polish added to the game since the TOjam, so if you played it back then, be sure to give it another try!

Instructions:
The arrow keys move your firefighter.
The 'A' key makes you jump.
Holding the 'S' key uses the fire extinguisher. Hold UP or DOWN while shooting to aim the stream. You can find items to replenish your extinguisher reserve.
The 'D' key uses the fire axe. Use it on doors and debris to clear out a path.
The DOWN arrow key picks up civillians. Bring them to the fire chief or to the firetruck outside to rescue them.

There is a thread about the game on tigsource here:

This sunday!

Here's a reminder of what the blitzkast is.
Organized by the Poppenkast, the Blitzkast is a monthly game jam kinda thing happening on the second Sunday of every month. This month, its the 12th. So thats TOMORROW.

The idea
Participants have the whole day Sunday to spend around 4 hours on a new game project/prototype. The time limit is there to make people keep their project scope in check, to have the right aim to get something started and finished that day. Its no big deal to go over 4 hours. Kind of a rule of thumb.
Participants are strongly encouraged to join up the Poppenkast IRC channel during the blitz to share how their things are doing. Its at server irc.slashnet.org, channel name #poppenkast.

Why participate?
Its the perfect excuse to take a break from your usual projects and go nuts on something new and refreshing for just a short while. You just have four hours to lose...
Its time to experiment and do weird stuff! If you like.

This time around, the hastily, arbitrarily chosen optional theme is DESTROYING A CITY

Once Sunday comes and you got something to show, post it in the topic made just for that in the poppenkast forum: forum topic.

Though you can spend your hours any time next Sunday, you are strongly encouraged to start at around 18:00 UTC and join the irc channel. The idea is that if we have an official start time, people are more likely to start together and itll be more active, interesting and stimulating!

Once it starts anything goes, people can work on games together in spontaneous teams or individually. So pick up your XNAs and Game Makers and Unities and Flashpunks and Multimediar Fusions and whatever the cool kids use these days and get ready to rOCkK AND RoLL

Here are the wonderful games made last month!

Kruunu

Tower climbing game with a pinch of puzzle. Smooth wall jumping, screen wrapping from the sides, enemies to watch out for and levers to open stone doors. All shown with nice pixel graphics and accompanied with rocking chiptune music.

Also there's a hint in the trailer, that it's not all about relaxing tower level.
